Seed Library

Our Seed Library is closed for the season. We will be back soon!

Opens March 1, 2024!

The Schiller Park Public Library is excited to announce the addition of the Seed Library collection.

In the lobby of the main library, you will notice our old card catalog has been repurposed to function as the New Seed Library, stocked with vegetable, gourd, flower, and herb seeds.

Using the Seed Library

The Seed Library is open to Schiller Park residents regardless of whether they have a Schiller Park Public Library card. The Seed Library is self-service.  Seed packets are free, and available on a first-come, first-served basis. While supplies last.  There is no obligation to return seeds.

CHECKING OUT SEEDS

The Seed Library is available from March 1 through August 31.Because the seed library is a limited shared community resource, we ask that users be mindful of how many packets they take per visit.

HOW IT WORKS– Grab. Garden. Grow!

STEP 1: Select the seeds you would like to plant.  You are allowed up to five packets per household per growing season.

STEP 2: Record your selected packets on the “Seed-Checkout Ticket”, with your name, seed code (listed on the back of the packet) and number of packets you are “grabbing” and drop it into the ticket box.

STEP 3: Follow the planting instructions included on the packet which contains plant-specific instructions for you to achieve the best results or find additional information available in our SEED CATALOG binder.

**Please Note: The Seed Library gives no guarantee of quality, germination, or purity.

If you’ve checked out seeds from the library, please share photos of your plants as they grow!
