How do I get a library card?

Adult patrons (18 years and older) must apply in person and provide two pieces of legal identification with the applicant’s name and Schiller Park address. Both pieces of identification must have identical Schiller Park addresses.

Adult patrons are responsible for any fines, fees, or overdue items.

How do I get a library card for my child?

Juvenile patrons (17 and under) must apply in person and be present with a parent or legal guardian who must provide two pieces of legal identification with the parent or legal guardian’s current name and address. Both pieces of identification must have identical Schiller Park addresses.

If the parent or legal guardian already has a Schiller Park Public Library card on file in current standing, they can provide the library card and one piece of legal identification which must have an identical address of the parent or legal guardian’s library card on file.

What are acceptable forms of identification?

Identification must be current, nothing handwritten will be accepted. Below are the acceptable forms:

  • Utility Bill
  • Illinois I.D. Card
  • Driver’s License
  • Government Letter
  • Selective Service Card
  • Voter’s Registration
  • Military Card
  • Checkbook
  • Lease
  • W-2 Form
  • Insurance Policy
  • Vehicle Registration Identification Card
  • Charge Card Statement, Bank Statement
  • Any other legal documents

The library reserves the right to revoke or restrict the use of a library card if borrowing privileges and/or the Library’s Rule of Conduct are abused.

How do I renew my library card?

Library cards are issued for three years after which renewal with one piece of valid identification with the applicant’s name and Schiller Park address is required.

What if I lose my library card?

Please call or come in to the library to report a lost card immediately. We will mark it as lost, which protects you if it is misused. You may get a replacement card for a fee of $1.00 for the first replacement. Each subsequent replacement is increased by $1.00.

Where can I use my library card?

Schiller Park Public Library cards may be used at most libraries in Illinois. If visiting a library outside of Schiller Park and the SWAN consortium, ask if they are a state-wide reciprocal borrower. (Bring ID and your Schiller Park Public Library card. Registration may be required on your first visit.) Be sure your account is not expired and is clear of any fines. How do I log in to my account?

To log in to your Schiller Park Public Library Card Account, you will need your library card number and your personal identification number (PIN). You can login using your library barcode and PIN by visiting https://sps.swanlibraries.net/MyAccount/. If you are having trouble logging in, please contact the library during open hours so that we may further assist you.

What if I am an Illinois library card holder outside the SWAN Consortium?

Illinois Library card holders can register their library cards at the Schiller Park Public Library by providing one piece of valid identification with their current name and address and their home library card. Be sure your account is not expired and clear of any fines.

What if I am a non-resident?

Nonresident cards will be issued to individuals residing in Illinois who do not have his/her principal residence within the territory of a public library service area. Nonresident card means the library card purchased by an individual residing in an area not taxed for public library service from a participating public library.

The nonresident library card will be issued for 12 months for a fee of $305.00.

A valid nonresident library card shall accord the nonresident library cardholder to all the services the issuing library provides to its residents including reciprocal borrowing privileges.
