Librarians are always available to help students find materials for assignments. Teachers may use the Assignment Alert Form, phone the library, fax, email, or visit the staff with information about short term assignments. Notifying the library in advance relieves the issue of students checking out all of the needed sources, leaving other students with few resources. If unable to provide sufficient materials to a student, staff will send a Teacher Notification Form to school with the student to let the teacher know they tried to complete their assignment.
With advance notice of at least one full week the staff will gather special collections together for assignments upon school request. Items will be held on the Special Collections shelves in the Youth Services Room for the length of the assignment. The library reserves the right to limit the number of items that may be checked out per student, if they may be checked out at all. Reference books included in Special Collections may not be checked out.
Library cards have been issued to each school and teachers are encouraged to use their school’s card when making loans for classroom use. The Youth Services Department will be happy to gather materials such as books and non-print items to be picked up or assist in finding materials. Teachers may borrow up to 25 books for a 3-week loan on a valid school library card. Fines for overdue books are $.10 per day per item.
A staff member from the Youth Services Department will be happy to visit classrooms to provide library instruction, tell stories, or give book talks. Classes are also invited to visit the library. Please call the Youth Services Department to set up a mutually convenient time.
Textbooks for grades 6 – 12 are available for in library only. Please send a copy of any new textbooks, (with the grade marked on the inside of the cover) to the library and also a list of titles no longer in use. The book(s) will be returned to the District.
